Fall

Keyword: Fall

I’m not sure why, but today I have been having feelings of fall. I call it fall, some call it Autumn. Either way, I have been feeling it today. I even got out my black licorice candle and put it by my bed. I didn’t light it, but the aroma is so strong, it just oozes into the air when the lid is removed. The Yankee Candle Co. retired this candle a few years ago and made me sad so I burn my four candles sparingly. The picture above is of my front yard about 20 years ago and it is one of my favorites because it just has some of my favorite things: dead leaves, rain, and plastic ghosts hanging from the trees. It just screams Halloween, which is another one of my favorite things. I felt the fall vibe so strong today, that I even watched Hocus Pocus. I think I have these feelings the same time every year. I’m out of season. Next month, I’ll be experiencing Christmas early. I’m weird but I wouldn’t want to be any other way.

Kindergarten

Keyword: Kindergarten

My 7-year old nephew told me today that kindergarten is just about playing games and going outside. I asked him did he learn anything when he was in kindergarten, and he said, “yeah, how to play games and go outside”. I laughed, but I think he is right. When I was in kindergarten, more than 30 years ago, I remember one day when we tried on wigs. I’m not sure why we did that, but it stands as a special day. I remember that day and the time when I walked home by myself. That stands out in my mind because I was so scared. School was dismissed early and my mom didn’t know it. I was standing outside with the principal of the school waiting for her, when I decided that it wasn’t that far and I could walk home all by myself. I believe it was like five blocks or something. The principal didn’t even try and stop me! How many adults would let a 5-year old kid take off by themselves?!? I remember walking past a fenced in yard and having a German Shepard growl and try to get me. Oh, and I’m lucky I’m still here today because after I found my way home, my mom freaked out and told me that the cops were looking for a guy in the neighborhood that was abducting children. At the time, I could care less because when I walked in the door, all I saw was my sister and my mom eating Kentucky Fried chicken without me! The nerve! Kindergarten was cool and life was much simpler then. *sigh*

Popcorn

Keyword: Popcorn

I love popcorn! Don’t give me any of that microwave popcorn either! I like making my own the old-fashioned way. All it takes is a heat source, a pan with a lid, popcorn, and salt. If I’m feeling saucy, I’ll put some yummy melted butter on top! Oh, and if I am desiring an even more artery clogging treat and it’s movie night, I melt a Hershey bar and dip the popcorn in it. Yeah, I guess microwave popcorn will do in a pinch, but I’d rather take the time and effort to make something tastier. The drive-in movie theatre, which is in the town I live in, has the best popcorn if you get it fresh, and the Target snack bar has some popcorn to die for. Did I just say ‘to die for’? I’ve never used that statement before in my life. Ick. Oh, and my favorite kind of Jelly Belly jellybean? Buttered popcorn, of course!
